State Excavation Director & Heritage Specialist

Matthew has worked in most Australian states and the Pacific area undertaking assessment, excavation, post-excavation analysis and conservation management reporting since 1989.  These projects have involved clients at Commonwealth, State and Local Government levels.

Matthew’s archaeological experience includes test excavations, monitoring, and open-area excavation on sites of both local and State significance. During his career, he has worked with teams of heritage professionals with a wide range of skills such as artefact specialisation, palynology, surveying, geomorphology, materials conservation, forensic archaeology, and interpretation. This work has involved periods as diverse as early colonial convict sites, 19th and 20th centuries mission sites through to WW2 battlefields and fortifications.
